Peter,
wich kind of r25 do you have?
type, engine, etc.
(I have the same problem, But I've got an elektronic speed-tracker. I've replaced the sensor with no result, so it seems that the dashboard unit is broken)

hi,
i have a R25TX, 1989, Automatic, gearbox AR45, engine J7T 732/3, 2150ccm, 79kw ..
i clearly have a cable, because, i found it under the hood, and i can see where it is broken, but i could not get to the dashboard, to see where to unplug the part from there

.. and i'm not willing to take the dashboard appart all by my self, because then it will never fit again in its place
here a photo of the car..
bye, peter

You don't have to remove the whole dashboard for it.
Just take out the instrument part.
Remember, there is very little room for your hand to get behind the speedometer and push the side of the connector to make it unplugged.
Don't use force (like i did) to take the instrument part out, than it will brake off, and can't be reassembled.
