hello, i wrote about 1month ago, that i had some problems with my AR4 Gearbox, on my Renault 25TX, 1989. i found out about a week ago (after i took it to a certified automatic transmission mechanic) that i have to change the whole gearbox he said that beside the fact that the discs are burn down, the whol gearbox shell is cracked. so i'll need another gearbox (second hand) in wich he will change the parts and make one of the two working. my biggest problem is, i have searched in Romania, Hungary, Spain .. but didn't finde any single gearbox ( no one has ever heard of it can you please post here where i can get a hold of such a gearbox ? is it possible in Ntherland ? to find such a gearbox (ev. from a broken, crashed car, that still has the gearbox-part intact) ? i would kindly appriciate any help, because without the gearbox i'm left without my tiny little renault (

In the Netherlands are a lot of R25, so I think you have a big change you could find one over here. I can also imagine that there are a lot of parts in france to.

I have a AR4 gearbox, come's from a 1991 TXI, but 1 disc is broken to.
Unfortanly it's a common problem with these gearboxes.
It can be repaired (read: replaced)
If the body of the gearbox is the same, i don't know.

are they the same ? i meen will it fit on my '89 TX ? or were there several models released ? mine was a 1,2,D,N,P .. so i think a 3speeder.

I don't think they are the same.
The one i'm talking about is a 4 speed gearbox, so my best guess is that they do not fit.
But than i'm also wondering if your's is an AR4 box.
The 3speed gearbox is by mine knowledge a very solid one

so u think mine is not an AR4? i don't know wtf to think mine is a 3 speeder 100% .. what do you meen by "solid" ? the mechanic said that he found a gearbox somwhere in germany, and can bring it to me .. he said that is exactly the one i have.. i dont know..

i'm pretty sure it is not an AR4
By solid i was meaning that these gearboxes where strong and reliable
Depending of course on the price of the German offer, when it is exactly the same, why not buy it.

so, i decided to stick with the 3speed one, that my mechanic found in Aachen .. overall with the repair, transportation .. & the Repair Kit, for the gearbox i'm at 1000euros bynow hopefully it's worth it & won't brake down in a while again ..

p.s. can u give me some links/files to some handbooks for R25 ? and also i would appriciate some advice concerning the AT ? what's good / what's not?

Place ad on ebay under "want it now" and you might find somebody with one for next to no money.

what do you do about the auto going into limp-mode??

@ Cas, first and cheapest is to change oil with the lubricant prescribed by Renault, and NOT anything else because of excessive wear of the discs and bands inside.
So give me the type and specs. plse

MJ3 auto box, 86 R25.
I think it is electrical because it comes and goes and is related to to limp mode .
If it didn't go into limp-mode it would be mechanical fault.

Any one been able to tame the computer?

the connections seem to have some influence , just thinking it would be ironic if it was connector joints-wire that was at fault and not the computer?
So many people gone down this path......just needs one of these to make intermitant contact to cause grief.

Computer doesn't really have a lot of work to do.

We are in the bush in Australia and they are very tough and strong cars, surprisingly they deal with the rough dirt roads well.

What do people in Europe do to solve their woes?

Hi Cas, Renault has made cars for different type's of roads, so you can have a 25 made for rough roads/cimate
If you look on the internet there is a possibility that you can find the details in English. Search for "Dialogys" that is the Renault doc.
Corroded connections(there are pictures in my pdf) are a major problem with Renaults over the years, so start with that, is not expensive but time consuming, and might solve your problem.
